23 Oct 2019 - 10:45

Prof. Tobias Bonhoeffer (Wellcome Governor) and Dr Michael Chew (Wellcome Science Portfolio Manager, Infection and Immunology), visited CIDRI-Africa and the Neuroscience Institute at UCT on the 10th and 11th of October 2019. The visitors enjoyed the opportunity to hear from and interact with a range of Wellcome-supported scientists, including CIDRI-Africa's early career researchers.

On the morning of the 11th of October, Prof. Bonhoeffer and Dr Chew visited CIDRI-Africa’s clinical research site at Khayelitsha Site B Community Health Centre, where they toured the facility with Clinical Projects Co-ordinator René Goliath and interacted with staff and students.

Later, they visited CIDRI-Africa’s laboratories at the IDM with Basic Science Platform lead Digby Warner and Berenice Arendse (IDM Health and Safety Officer and laboratory manager). A well-attended open session of presentations by Wellcome- and CIDRI-Africa-funded researchers followed (download the programme).
