CIDRI-Africa Contributing and Principal Investigators Associate Prof. Helen Cox and Prof. Valerie Mizrahi's editorial on genomic approaches to Mycobacterium tuberculosis drug susceptibility testing was published yesterday in the New England Journal of Medicine.  Profs Cox and Mizrahi discussed the paper published by Allix-Béguec and colleagues in the same issue in which they showed a strong correlation between whole-genome sequencing-based genotypic predictions of Mycobacterium tuberculosis drug susceptibility, and phenotypic susceptibility as determined by culture.

"Our goals should include the provision of universal drug-susceptibility testing as a key requirement for meeting the WHO End TB targets.", they concluded.
