The Khayelitsha HVTN702 trial team and Prof. Graeme Meintjes recently hosted a series of visits to CIDRI-Africa’s clinical operations facility by representatives of several current and prospective trial sponsors and stakeholders: the HIV Vaccine Trials Network, Janssen, DAIDS Vaccine Research Program, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The guests toured the research clinic at Site B in Khayelitsha, observing processes in reception, recruitment and clinical activities, and the vaccination request and delivery process.

Community engagement staff enjoyed the opportunity to discuss their daily activities and processes with the visitors and shared challenges and successes in their community engagement, recruitment and retention strategies.

The visitors also viewed the on-site laboratory and pharmacy, which have both been equipped with sophisticated temperature monitoring systems and electrical backup infrastructure, and the MCC/SAPRHA approved resuscitation trolley. This equipment aligns our clinic with the highest local and international standards and ensures study participant safety.
